Founded in 1937 and located on Fifth Avenue on the Upper East Side since 1959, the Guggenheim is one of the most famous cultural centres in Manhattan. Visit as much for the bold architecture as for the exhibitions chosen from the collection of over 5,000 world-class Impressionist, Post-Impressionist, modern and contemporary works of art.
The 800-metre long spiral gallery, designed by Frank Lloyd Wright, welcomes the world's largest collection of paintings by Kandinsky (about 200 canvases), but it also contains part of the collection of the famous German art dealer Justin K. Thannhauser, which includes, among others, works by Picasso, Braque, Degas, and Cézanne.
